FOUR STEPS TO CREATING A KNOWLEDGE SHARING PLAN

If you've thought about taking action to encourage knowledge sharing in your organization, but aren't sure how to get started, you're not alone. Changing behavior is difficult, and it doesn't happen overnight. One way you can begin is to initiate and model "knowledge sharing behavior".

The September 2006 edition of the SLA journal, Information Outlook, included an article from Thomson Scientific's Libby Trudell that draws on her many years of knowledge sharing experience. The article describes four steps for planning a pilot project, drawn from experience in the knowledge sharing trenches:

Step 1: Start with business needs
Step 2: Understand knowledge sharing activities
Step 3: Select knowledge sharing tools
Step 4: Model knowledge sharing behavior
